CFPM Conference App — Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026
This app is published by the Canadian Federation of Podiatric Medicine (CFPM) for
attendees of its annual conference. This page explains what information the app
collects and how it's used.
What we collect
-
Your name. When you first open the app, you're asked for your first
and last name to personalize the experience (e.g. "Welcome, Jordan!"). By default this
stays on your device only. It's sent to our servers only when you take a specific
action that earns conference points — checking into a session or scanning an
exhibitor's QR code (see "Conference points" below) — so the organizer can run the
leaderboard and prize draw.
-
A push notification token. If you allow notifications, your device
registers an Expo push token so we can deliver conference announcements. This token
is stored with your device's platform (iOS/Android) and isn't linked to your name or
any other personal information.
-
A random device ID. The app generates a random identifier on your
device (not your phone's hardware ID or advertising ID) to remember things like which
polls you've already answered, which sessions you've checked into, and which exhibitor
booths you've visited.
-
Conference points. Checking into a session or scanning an exhibitor's
QR code sends your name, device ID, and the session/exhibitor involved to our servers.
This powers an in-app leaderboard and prize draw the organizer runs during the
conference. It isn't used for anything beyond that.
-
Camera access, for QR scanning only. If you use the exhibitor
passport feature, the app asks for camera access to scan exhibitor QR codes. Scanned
images are processed on your device and are never saved, stored, or uploaded.
What we don't do
- We don't require an account, email, or password to use the app.
- We don't use advertising or analytics SDKs, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
- We don't sell or share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Service providers
The app relies on a small number of infrastructure providers to function:
- Google Firebase — stores conference content (schedule, speakers,
exhibitors, etc.) and the anonymous data described above.
- Cloudinary — hosts photos/logos uploaded by conference organizers
(speaker headshots, sponsor logos, maps). This doesn't involve attendee data.
- Expo — delivers push notifications using the token described above.
None of these providers are permitted to use your data for their own purposes.
Admin access
Conference organizers manage app content (schedule, speakers, notifications, etc.)
through a separate admin sign-in, restricted to a single authorized account. This is
unrelated to attendee use of the app.
Your choices
You can disable notifications at any time in your device's system settings. Uninstalling
the app removes the name and device ID stored on your device. To request removal of your
push token, poll/check-in data, or leaderboard entry from our servers, contact us using
the details below.
